De Niro, who's up for Best Supporting Actor at next week's Oscars for his performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, plays George Mullen, a "popular but complicated figure" extracted out of retirement to lead a commission investigating a global cyberattack.

Black Panther star Bassett is President Mitchell, a sharp political strategist with an allegiance to Mullen, while Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire's Dan Stevens is a "charismatic loudmouth" who hosts a political television show.

Additional cast members include: Matthew Modine (Oppenheimer), Bill Camp (The Outsider), McKinley Belcher III (Ozark), Gaby Hoffman (Girls), Clark Gregg (Agents of SHIELD), Lizzy Caplan (Castle Rock), Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad), Joan Allen (The Crucible) and Connie Britton (The White Lotus).

In other news, Idris Elba recently recounted charming his way into De Niro's offices in an attempt to land a part in Martin Scorsese's crime drama A Bronx Tale.

"When I was just starting out in this business – I was 19 years old – I scammed my way up to Robert De Niro's office in Tribeca," said the Hijack star.

"I got kicked out of the office by Robert De Niro's producing partner at the time, a gesture that I took to mean, 'Kid, you're going to go places.'"

Zero Day will stream on Netflix at a later date.
