No Programming Skills, No Problem: This 6-Day Course Teaches You Data Analytics (Up To 100% Claimable)

You’re probably aware of this by now: data science and data analytics are the skills to have in this day and age.

While some might think of them as ‘buzzwords of the year’, it’s hard to deny that they are extremely applicable – regardless of the industry or role you’re in.

Having some knowledge about data science can also help you decipher some of the mysteries of your life online.

For example, how a casual search for a particular brand or item on Google suddenly leads to you being fed related advertisements on various social media platforms.

Not just for personal interest, being acquainted with data analytics and data science can actually also lead you to a new, burgeoning industry.

In the 2018 Emerging Jobs in Singapore report released by LinkedIn just last month, data scientist jobs saw the “steepest rate of growth (17 times) between 2013 and last year”.

Following that was cyber-security specialists (5.5 times), user-experience designers (3.4 times), and digital heads and content specialists (both 3 times).

It’s not difficult to see why data scientist jobs are rising in popularity.

For B2C companies, collecting data and making sense of the insights gathered helps them know when and who to target for their marketing efforts.

The benefits also extend to non-consumer facing businesses that are looking to manage employee productivity and make better business decisions.

Mid-career data scientists/analysts have also been reported to earn around $120,000 annually!

But how does one even get started?

This is where the Singapore Data Science Academy wants to come in with their data science course for beginners.

No Background, No Problem

The Singapore Data Science Academy was established by founders who aren’t just passionate about data science and analytics – they also want to help groom and educate the public about the fields they love so dearly.

Instead of taking the profit-driven route by churning out courses without any discretion, they’re more focused on building up the ecosystem by ensuring that students leave not just with a new certificate, but also able to apply what they learnt to real life situations.

To do so, they are especially particular about the quality of lessons provided by coaches in their mission to nurture the next generation of data scientists and analysts in Singapore.

The founders of the Singapore Data Science Academy also believe that everyone needs to start somewhere, even if that ‘somewhere’ means that their students have zero background in data science.

Their ‘Core Foundations for Data Science’ class runs as a 6-day intensive bootcamp, with each lesson lasting 3 hours each.

Taught by Data Experts (including Data Scientists and Analysts), the course will teach attendees about how to read data, the basics of programming language Python, Machine Learning, and Sentiment Analysis, just to name a few.

Upon ‘graduation’, you should be able to understand the core concepts of data science, tackle problems using computational thinking, do some basic programming with Python, derive insights using visualisation, and use Python to manipulate big data.

No Money, No Problem Too!

Of course, we now need to address the elephant in the room – the price.

While the course fee is S$2,500, this is before taking into account the claims that Singaporeans and PRs can use!

Under Critical Infocomm Technology Resource Programme Plus (CITREP+), a programme under IMDA’s TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) initiative, Singaporeans and PRs will be able to claim their course fees.

As a quick background, CITREP+ was created to support “local professionals in acquiring or enhancing technical skill sets through broad-based short duration courses and certification”.

For this course, Singaporeans between the age of 17-25 who are either students or NSFs/ORD within 6 months from course start date would be able to claim up to 100% of their course fees.

To put it simply, this group gets to attend the course for FREE (Terms and Conditions Apply).

For Singaporean/PR working professionals, up to 70% or up to 90% (for those 40 years old and above, or those subsidised by SME) of the course fees can be claimed – not too shabby at all.

Here’s a breakdown of the claims available:

For full details of the CITREP+ scheme, please visit IMDA’s website.

Do note, though, that trainees have to enrol before March 2019 to qualify for claims, and there’s a minimum 75% attendance (at least 5 out of 6 of the classes) that applies.

You’ll also need to pay the fees in full first, before making the claim from CITREP+.

Their December 2018 intake, happening on Week 2 of December (10-15 Dec) and Week 3 of December (17-22 Dec) is now open, so sign up ASAP to book your slot and start the new year with a fresh skill!

But do note that eligible Singaporeans and PR will need to bear the course fee before applying for claims. Find out more about TeSA CITREP+ and IMDA here.
