Following a delay of almost a week, the lobster season off P.E.I.'s North Shore will open Sunday.

The decision to start the season Sunday in LFA 24, which runs along the North Shore from East Point to North Cape, was made during a conference call with Fisheries and Oceans Canada Friday morning. The season was originally scheduled to open Monday.

Strong winds have kept fishers off the water. Boats are heavily laden with traps on setting day, which means calm weather is required for safety reasons.

The season is already open in the eastern half of the Northumberland Strait. It opened last Saturday, following a one-day delay due to weather.
