Commuters travelling on SMRT’s North-South Line during rush hour on Thursday evening (1 June) faced long delays due to new signaling system checks conducted by the train operator.

At 6.47pm, SMRT tweeted to ask commuters to add 20 minutes of additional travel time between Marina South Pier and Jurong East stations both ways.

Free regular bus services were activated between Jurong East and Choa Chu Kang stations, and between City Hall and Ang Mo Kio stations.

At 7.17pm, SMRT tweeted that trains are progressively returning to normal speed and asked commuters to add 15 minutes of additional travel time.

Almost an hour after its first tweet about the disruption, SMRT said train services were returning to normal and that free regular bus services have ceased.

Commuters who were affected by the service disruptions took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction with SMRT.

B@MissyBlack00 said in a tweet, “Still stopping in between stations! Where’s the progressively returning to normal?? Cease operations la!”
