Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal LIVE!

Arsenal overcame a sluggish first-half performance to cut the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to two points after a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners looked toothless in the first half, but rallied to register three big points thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka. The result leaves them on the coattails of Liverpool, who can extend their lead back to five points against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Forest had no intention of going for the win in a pragmatic approach deployed by Nuno Espirito Santo, but they made a game of it late on as Taiwo Awoniyi slammed home in the 89th minute. Arsenal saw it out to end a three-game losing streak at the City Ground and exorcise the ghosts of last season's defeat, which saw their title challenge come to an end. Forest's situation at the foot of the Premier League is looking precarious, as they sit two points above the relegation zone with the threat of a points deduction for breaking financial rules hanging over them.

Exactly what they needed ahead of this weekend's crucial clash against Liverpool.

GOAL! Nottingham Forest 1-2 Arsenal | Taiwo Awoniyi 89'

HOLD UP!

Out of nothing. Awoniyi too strong for Saliba, turns in the box and beats Raya!

Game on?

Nottingham Forest 0-2 Arsenal

21:15 , Matt Verri

86 mins: Not much pace in the match now.

Forest have pretty much given up on this one, Arsenal the team pushing for another goal but all very controlled.

Saka very nearly in again, but he clips Toffolo's heels.

Nottingham Forest 0-2 Arsenal

21:12 , Matt Verri

83 mins: Nketiah tries his luck from a tight angle, cleared behind for a corner.

Saka swings it in right on top of the goalkeeper, and the goalkeeper claims confidently enough.

Nottingham Forest 0-2 Arsenal

21:10 , Matt Verri

81 mins: Trossard inches away from a stunning goal!

Skips away from the challenges, cutting inside off the left and wing and he hammers a strike at goal from 20 yards out. Flies just wide.

Nottingham Forest 0-2 Arsenal

21:06 , Matt Verri

78 mins: Elanga on for Williams, for the hosts.

Two Arsenal changes too. Nketiah and Trossard are on, as Jesus and Martinelli make way.

Nottingham Forest 0-2 Arsenal

21:05 , Matt Verri

76 mins: This is exactly where Arsenal want to be.

They can dominate the ball at their own pace now, no need to force things. Arsenal in complete control.

Simon Collings at the City Ground

21:02 , Matt Verri

Brilliant goal from Arsenal. They finally get the space they crave and Forest are ruthlessly punished.

GOAL! Nottingham Forest 0-2 Arsenal | Bukayo Saka 72'

21:01 , Matt Verri

First Arsenal change, Havertz on for Smith Rowe.

Montiel gives the ball away, here come Arsenal on the counter.

Jesus slides it through to Saka... SCORES! Lashes the finish into the far corner.

Nottingham Forest 0-1 Arsenal

20:57 , Matt Verri

69 mins: Jesus finds Odegaard, as Arsenal charge forward on the counter.

Wide to Saka, onto his left foot and Murillo does well to block that shot. Concedes the corner.

Nottingham Forest 0-1 Arsenal

20:56 , Matt Verri

67 mins: Arsenal fans making all the noise now.

That goal came from a throw-in, Jesus getting in behind and it's not the best goalkeeping from Turner, to put it mildly.

Simon Collings at the City Ground

20:55 , Matt Verri

Of course, after missing a sitter, Jesus scores from the tightest of angles.

GOAL! Nottingham Forest 0-1 Arsenal | Gabriel Jesus 65'

20:54 , Matt Verri

ARSENAL TAKE THE LEAD!

Jesus basically on the byline, and he's somehow found a way to squeeze the ball past Turner!

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:53 , Matt Verri

64 mins: Dominguez off for Forest, Hudson-Odoi on in his place.

No sign of any Arsenal changes yet. Havertz and Nketiah the obvious options.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:52 , Matt Verri

63 mins: Really good defending from Murillo, jumps out and just about beats Martinelli to the ball, as the Arsenal man looked to poke it away from him in the box.

Still Arsenal push. Still Forest hold firm.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:49 , Matt Verri

60 mins: Furious reaction from the Forest fans, as Saka stays down and the referee stops play. Not a head injury.

He got caught by Gibbs-White, referee waited and then as Forest charged forward, the whistle goes.

Saka is fine to continue, as we get back underway.

Simon Collings at the City Ground

20:47 , Matt Verri

Arsenal better since the break. The passing has got quicker in the final third and it has coincided with Forest tiring.

Big 30 minutes to go.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:45 , Matt Verri

57 mins: OFF THE POST!

Lovely move, Jesus played in and from six yards out he smacks an effort off the inside of the woodwork. Had to score really, even if it was a bit of a tight angle.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:44 , Matt Verri

56 mins: Odegaard finds Smith Rowe and he has loads of space to drive into.

Wide to Martinelli, who jinks into the box and puts the ball into the middle, headed out for a corner.

Rice again the man to take in-swinger. Towards Smith Rowe at the near post, Montiel on the scene again to clear.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:42 , Matt Verri

54 mins: Odegaard pokes the ball outside to Saka, first-time shot takes a deflection and it's a strong hand from Turner to keep it out.

Arsenal stay on the attack, Saka's cross is charged behind. Corner.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:41 , Matt Verri

52 mins: Forest already offering more of a threat.

Arsenal don't deal with the free-kick as it's pinged to the back post, comes out to Williams and his header is comfortably saved by Raya.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:39 , Matt Verri

51 mins: Brilliant from Saliba.

Arsenal all of a sudden very exposed as Gibbs White charges forward, Awoniyi is completely free to his right.

Would have been clean through, but Saliba reads it and intercepts.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:38 , Matt Verri

49 mins: Zinchenko clips a lovely ball over the top, Martinelli is away.

Opts not to go for the shot with his left foot, and takes too long to then try and square it. Chance goes.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:34 , Matt Verri

46 mins: Awoniyi is on for Forest, his return from injury is a huge boost. He's replaced Wood.

Different threat for Saliba and Gabriel to deal with.

Back underway!

20:33 , Matt Verri

Up and running for the second-half!

First-half stats...

20:27 , Matt Verri

Arsenal have had more than 80% of possession.

They've had nine shots, only one of those on target though. Comfortable night for Turner so far, against his former club.

Forest have offered basically nothing in attack, but they've worked really hard off the ball.

Simon Collings at the City Ground

20:22 , Matt Verri

The visitors have dominated possession, but lacking that killer pass in the final third.

Build-up play until the box has been good and Arsenal look in control.

Saka went closest to scoring just before break, but shot deflected wide.

HT: Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:19 , Matt Verri

A fairly standard Arsenal half.

Dominant on the ball, no real chances for the opposition... and nothing to show for it.

It's goalless at the break.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:16 , Matt Verri

45+1 mins: Three minutes added on.

Zinchenko again gets forward, puts the ball in and Jesus turns it wide. Looks like Forest will make it to half-time still on level terms.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:14 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Just wide!

Great ball in from Zinchenko, Smith Rowe pokes it to Saka and he gets a shot away quickly, takes a big deflection and dribbles beyond the near post. Not far away at all.

Rice swings the corner in, Montiel heads it away at the near post.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:12 , Matt Verri

41 mins: Forest with an incredibly rare attack, but they have numbers forward this time.

Danilo with space to drive into, goes for goal from 25 yards out. Decent strike, always rising over the bar though.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:09 , Matt Verri

39 mins: That was almost the chance!

Jesus in down the left, cuts it back and Smith Rowe lets it run for Odegaard. He could shoot, tries to lay it off to Rice instead and Forest clear.

White then gets free on the opposite wing, cut back is a poor one.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:09 , Matt Verri

38 mins: Montiel fine to continue, though we will have a fair bit of added-time.

Match is quickly back into the established pattern. Forest with everyone within 30 yards of their own goal, Arsenal trying to find a way through.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:06 , Matt Verri

35 mins: For all the Forest fans are complaining, it was actually Montiel's shoulder that took a boot from Omobamidele.

He's gone back down now, will get some treatment.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:05 , Matt Verri

34 mins: It's a fair while since Arsenal had a chance.

Lots of the ball, all been comfortable for Forest though. Jesus tries to change that, cutting inside onto his right foot and the shot is blocked.

Montiel had been down, looked to have taken a boot to the face from a team-mate.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

20:02 , Matt Verri

31 mins: Smith Rowe sharp to get the shot away, never troubling Turner though.

Arsenal comfortably into three figures for passes in the final third. Forest? One.

Simon Collings at the City Ground

20:00 , Matt Verri

A familiar opening 30 minutes for Arsenal, who have had plenty of possession but little to show for it.

They need to turn the dominance into goals

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

19:58 , Matt Verri

27 mins: Gibbs-White with an ambitious appeal for a penalty, as the ball hits Rice in the box. Was his shoulder.

Arsenal fly up the other end, Martinelli tries to square it for Saka but it's cleared behind for yet another corner.

Rice takes, deep towards Jesus but Wood is always winning that in the air.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

19:56 , Matt Verri

26 mins: Handball from Williams, free-kick in a decent position for Arsenal. Let's see what they've got planned for this, after Gabriel has a chat with Odegaard.

Not the best. Odegaard clips it in, Gabriel blocked off and Turner is off his line to claim.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

19:53 , Matt Verri

23 mins: Here come Forest, Gibbs-White driving forward and Smith Rowe is shrugged off as he tries to foul him.

Ball slid through to Wood, he's all by himself so goes for goal from distance. Blocked by Gabriel.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

19:52 , Matt Verri

22 mins: Martinelli skips away from Williams and fires a cross into the middle, headed out.

So many bodies for Arsenal to try and play through.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

19:50 , Matt Verri

19 mins: Forest think they've won the ball back, but Jesus is hacked from behind and the whistle goes.

The hosts have barely had a kick, but they'll be more than happy with the scoreline.

Simon Collings at the City Ground

19:47 , Matt Verri

Arsenal's left side looking very fluid. Martinelli, Smith Rowe and Zinchenko interchanging a lot and switching positions.

Jesus has drifted out left at times too.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

19:45 , Matt Verri

15 mins: Smith Rowe in behind, looks to square it but Jesus is unable to divert the ball towards goal. Took a deflection actually, corner.

Rice goes short to Odegaard, worked out to Saka on the edge of the box. Tries his luck from 25 yards out, Williams throws himself in the way to block.

Arsenal stay on the attack, but White is offside as he stands a cross up.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

19:43 , Matt Verri

13 mins: Ball drops for Odegaard in the box, space for the shot but it's well blocked.

Arsenal really pushing for an early goal here, dominant start from the Gunners.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

19:42 , Matt Verri

11 mins: Arsenal win their first corner of the match, plenty of talk about their set-pieces in recent days.

Saka takes it, Turner half-clears and Danilo completes the job. Forest already better at defending them than Palace were.

Simon Collings at the City Ground

19:41 , Matt Verri

As expected, Arsenal are having plenty of the ball and Forest have been happy to sit deep.

Chris Wood dropping so deep at times that he's right on the edge of his own penalty box.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

19:38 , Matt Verri

8 mins: Arsenal's turn to get back in their shape, as Gibbs-White brings it forward for Forest.

The Gunners win it back and Saka charges away down the right, plays it inside and Arsenal work it to the left.

Zinchenko swings it in, Danilo heads the ball away at the back post.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

19:35 , Matt Verri

4 mins: Arsenal with a real chance after winning the ball back high up the pitch.

Odegaard on the edge of the area, has Martinelli free waiting for it to be squared. Goes for a cute pass to Smith Rowe instead, rolls behind for a goal-kick.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Arsenal

19:33 , Matt Verri

3 mins: No surprise that it's Arsenal dominating possession in the very early stages.

Forest with everyone back, deep in their own half. Their plan, as ever, will be to counter when the moments come.

KICK-OFF!

19:30 , Matt Verri

We're up and running!

Here we go!

19:28 , Matt Verri

Teams are out onto the pitch, great atmosphere as ever at the City Ground.

It's not a stadium that Arsenal have enjoyed playing at in recent years - that has to change tonight.

Big chance for Smith Rowe!

19:22 , Matt Verri

Emile Smith Rowe gets the nod over Kai Havertz in midfield tonight.

Arsenal fans always keen for the Englishman to get chances to start - there haven't been many of them!

Huge night for Smith Rowe, as he looks to force his way into Mikel Arteta's plans for the weeks ahead.

Pre-match thoughts from Nuno

19:17 , Matt Verri

The Forest boss insists his full focus is on matters on the pitch.

How it stands...

19:13 , Matt Verri

Arsenal will move to within two points of Liverpool with victory this evening.

The Reds would of course have the chance to move five points ahead again tomorrow night, when they host Chelsea.

Crucial though that the Gunners keep up the pace, especially with Liverpool visiting north London this weekend.

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal: Gunners injury update

18:03 , Jonathan Gorrie

Mikel Arteta could be boosted by the return of multiple injured Arsenal players this week.

Problems for Declan Rice and Gabriel have been tended to since the Gunners were last in action, against Crystal Palace just over a week ago.

The silver lining of having the weekend out of FA Cup action was extra time for the squad to rest up as a busy fixture schedule picks up again.

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal: Mikel Arteta has no plans to leave despite shock Barcelona reports

17:34 , Jonathan Gorrie

Mikel Arteta has no plans to walk away from Arsenal at the end of the season.

Reports in Spain on Sunday night claimed Arteta is ready to step down and take the Barcelona job in the summer after Xavi announced he is leaving the Catalan giants.

But Arteta remains committed to Arsenal, where he is contracted until 2025.

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal: Mikel Arteta knows it is time to exorcise ghosts

The City Ground holds painful memories for Mikel Arteta.

It was there two years ago where Amazon's fly-on-the-wall documentary caught a furious Arteta ripping into his players in the dressing room after Arsenal crashed out of the FA Cup.

Last season, it was where their title bid ended, as a 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest confirmed Manchester City as champions.

Arsenal have been really poor in recent years when travelling to the City Ground, with two defeats in the FA Cup and a 1-0 loss at the end of last season when their title charge had fallen apart.

After a stumbling run before the winter break, the Gunners did look more like their usual selves against Palace, even if the Eagles offered little resistance. Forest can be expected to put up more of a fight, but Arsenal are fancied to just about get the job done ahead of a pivotal clash with Liverpool.

Arsenal to win, 2-1.

Arsenal team news vs Nottingham Forest today

17:02 , Jonathan Gorrie

Thomas Partey has returned to full first-team training as he nears a return from a thigh injury. He is unlikely to be rushed back into action, but Partey could make the squad against Forest.

Declan Rice is expected to be fit, after coming off against Palace with tightness in his hamstring as well as Gabriel after he picked up an issue last time out.

Gabriel Martinelli will hope he has done enough to start after scoring twice off the bench in that game.
