The Office US reboot is in the works again, with the original co-creator reportedly set to return.

The sitcom, which itself was based on the British series, concluded in 2013 after nine seasons, with rumours of a reboot surfacing ever since.

It seems there is now a concrete step forward, with Puck News and TV Line reporting that plans for a reboot are now underway, with original series co-creator and executive producer Greg Daniels returning.

It is currently unknown which cast members will return for the revival, though more details are reportedly due to be announced once the Hollywood strikes end. This news comes after the recently announced all-female version of the show, which is set in Australia.

The Prime Video series will focus on Hannah Howard (Felicity Ward), the chief of packaging company Flinley Craddick, as she wrestles with business demands following the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Howard gets news from head office that her branch will be shutting down and that staff will have to work from home. She goes into survival mode, making promises she can't keep and launching outlandish plots in order to keep her 'work family' together," reads the synopsis.

"I'm very excited about Australia remaking my little show from the turn of the century," said Ricky Gervais, the creator of the original UK series. "Office politics have changed a bit in 20 years, so [I] can't wait to see how they navigate a modern-day David Brent."

The eight-part series is due to begin filming this year and will also star Edith Poor, Steen Raskopoulos, Shari Sebbens, Josh Thomson, Jonny Brugh, Pallavi Sharda, Susan Ling Young, Raj Labade, Lucy Schmit and Firass Dirani.

The Office Australia will air on Prime Video in 2024.
