Two lanes along the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) towards Changi reopened after an accident involving an oil tanker had earlier caused their closure, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Monday (1 Feb).

LTA said in a tweet at 7.18pm that one lane was re-opened at 6pm, and the other lane was re-opened at 7.05pm.

The oil spill - the second such accident in three days – after the Toh Guan Road exit also forced LTA to close the slip roads of Bukit Batok Road and Jurong Town Hall Road, which leads to PIE (Changi), to facilitate the clean up process.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to the oil spill at around 1.40pm. It dispatched one fire engine to help in clearing the oil spill.

The cleanup was completed around 5pm.

There were no injuries in the accident involving a tipper truck and an oil tanker, and police investigations are ongoing.
