How Old Are the Characters in 'Bridgerton'?

From Anthony to Hyacinth Bridgerton.

In the dramatic world of Bridgerton, it's nearly impossible to ignore age. The show is basically Downton Abbey meets Gossip Girl, except instead of entitled teenagers trying to one up each other on the Upper East Side, it follows the regal 20-somethings of London's Regency era as they search for love (and status). Debutantes are launched into society at the age of 17 or 18 and immediately feel the pressure of finding their match before they become "spinsters" at the ripe old age of around 24.

Season 3 follows the love story of Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, just one year after Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma got thier happy ending, and two years after Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Bassett said "I do." So, how old are the Bridgerton characters? The ages in Julia Quinn's best-selling book series of the same name differ slightly from the show; however, for the sake of your Netflix bingeing experience, we've broken down the ages of each character in the show.

Penelope Featherington

Season 3's leading lady Penelope Featherington is 19 years old, and as Mona Lisa Vito from My Cousin Vinny said best, she feels her "biological clock is ticking" (stomp, stomp, stomp), having been in society for three years without any marriage prospects. But good things come to those who wait, and we're in store for a real hot friends/neighbors to lovers story between the youngest Featherington child and the third Bridgerton, Colin. Penelope is 17 in season 1 and 18 in season 2. She is played by Derby Girls star Nicola Coughlan, who to many fans' surprise is not in her 20s, but rather 37 years old.

Colin Bridgerton

This season's heartthrob, none other than third eldest Bridgerton sibling Colin Bridgerton, is 24 years old—making him five years Penelope's senior. Though a woman of his age would be considered "on the shelf," he is on the younger side among men of his stature taking wives. However, even in the 18th century, when you know, you know—and Colin and Penelope's connection is undeniably electric. Colin is 22 at the start of the series and 23 in season 2; he is played by Luke Newton, who is 31 years old.

Anthony Bridgerton

The eldest of the Bridgerton children, Anthony Bridgerton, is 31 years old in season 3. He is 29 when fans first meet him and 30 when his slow-burn love story with Kate Sharma plays out in season 2. Anthony is played by Jonathan Bailey, who is 36.

Kate Bridgerton

Anthony's love and newly minted lady of the Bridgerton household, Kate, is 27 years old in season 3. Fans first meet Kate Bridgerton, née Sharma, when she is a 25-year-old "spinster" and go on to watch her find love at 26 in season 2. She is played by Simone Ashley, who is 29.

Benedict Bridgerton

Second-eldest son Benedict Bridgerton is 29 years old in season 3, 28 in season 2, and 27 when fans first meet him in season 1. According to the books, season 3 should have seen his Cinderella-like love story with Sophie Beckett play out, however, it appears viewers will have to wait to see their romance unfold. Benedict is played by Luke Thompson, who is 35.

Daphne Bridgerton

Although fans won't see eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne, make an appearance in season 3 (as actress Phoebe Dynevor revealed in 2023 she will not be returning for this installment), she would be 23 years old. Daphne is 21 in season 1, when she enters society and strikes up a whirlwind romance with Simon Bassett, and 22 is season 2 when she counsels her older brother Anthony through his search for a wife. Dynevor is 29 and newly engaged to boyfriend Cameron Fuller.

Simon Bassett

Just like his wife, Daphne, Simon Bassett, the Duke of Hastings, will not return for season 3; however, if he did, he would be 31 years old. The Duke was 29 when his complex love story played out in season 1 and would have been 30 in season 2, however, he did not make a return then either. Simon is brought to life by Regé-Jean Page, who is 36.

Eloise Bridgerton

Eloise Bridgerton, daring feminist and second-eldest daughter, is 19 years old in season 3. Fans first meet the rebellious teenager when she is 17 in season 1 and see her enter society at 18, albeit with no interest in finding a husband, in season 2. Eloise is portrayed by Claudia Jessie, who is quite a few years older than her character at 34.

Francesca Bridgerton

Season 3 sees Francesca Bridgerton make her debut into society at 18 years old, portrayed by 29-year-old Hannah Dodd. Fans got minor glimpses into Francesca's life when she was 16 in season 1 and 17 in season 2, then portrayed by 23-year-old Ruby Stokes.

Gregory Bridgerton

Fresh-faced Gregory Bridgerton, the youngest son of the clan, is 14 years old in season 3. The young one is introduced in season 1 at 12 years old and makes a return in season 2 at 13. He is played by 17-year-old WIll Tilston.

Hyacinth Bridgerton

The curious, feisty Hyacinth Bridgerton—named after the bulbous purple flower—is the youngest child in the Bridgerton family. Fans see her in her pre-teen years, as she is 10 in season 1, 11 in season 2, and 12 in season 3. She is played by Florence Hunt, who is 17 years old.

Lady Violet Bridgerton

There are no Bridgerton kids without quintessential matriarch Lady Violet Bridgerton, who is 49 in season 3, 48 in season 2, and 47 in season 1. Violet is portrayed by Ruth Gemmell, who is 56.

Prudence Featherington

Eldest Featherington daughter Prudence is 29 years old in season 3, when she finally finds her prince charming in Harry Dankworth, whose age is undisclosed. Fans are first introduced to her (and her failed matches) when she is 27 in season 1, and see her as a 28-year-old still on the "marriage mart" in season 2. Prudence is played by Bessie Carter, who is close to her character's age at 30.

Philippa Featherington

It is unclear exactly how old middle daughter Philippa Featherington is, but we can guess she is in her mid-20s. Season 1 shows very little of Philippa's story, while season 2 sees her marry Albion Finch, whose age is also unknown. Philippa is played by Harriet Cains, who is 30.

Lord Jack Featherington

Con artist cousin Lord Jack Featherington's age is just another one of his secrets. In the show, he is ambiguously described as "not old." The actor who plays him, however, Rupert Young, is 46 years old.

Lady Portia Featherington

The devil works hard, but Lady Portia Featherington works harder to get her daughters married and keep up appearances. The matriarch's age is not disclosed in the series, but she is likely in her 40s. However, Polly Walker, the actress who portrays Portia, is 58 years old.

Lady Danbury

It is clear Lady Danbury, one of the most powerful women in London high society, has gained quite some years of wisdom, however, her age is not specified in the series. Many place her between 60 and 70 years old—a range the actress behind her, Adjoa Andoh fits nicely within, at 61 years old.

Queen Charlotte

Queen Consort Charlotte is 71 years old in season 3, 70 in season 2, and 69 in season 1. She is portrayed by Golda Rosheuvel, who is 54. Spinoff series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story flashes all the way back to the royal's teen years, when she is 17; in that show, she is played by 22-year-old India Amarteifio.

Cressida Cowper

Regal mean girl and Eloise's unlikely friend-match Cressida Cowper is around 23 years old, which makes her 22 in season 2 and 21 in season 1. She is played by Jessica Madsen, who is 32.

Marina Thompson

Although fans won't see more of Marina Thompson this season (as actress Ruby Baker shared she won't be returning due to mental health struggles), she would be 19 years old. Marina is 17 years old when she first arrives at the Featherington home in season 1 and 18 when her sad and lonely marriage to Phillip Crane plays out in season 2.
