One of 4 accused teen killers in Halifax stabbing granted bail
One of four teenagers accused of murdering another youth at a Halifax shopping mall has been released on bail.
On Friday afternoon, Judge Marc Chisholm of Nova Scotia youth court agreed to release a 14-year-old girl on strict conditions.
She's been held in the Waterville youth detention centre since just days after Ahmad Maher Al Marrach was killed.
The 16-year-old boy was stabbed in a parkade at the Halifax Shopping Centre early on the evening of April 22. He died later in hospital.
So far, the girl is the only accused to seek bail.
None of the three boys, a 14-year-old and two 16-year-olds, have asked to be released from detention. They were all arrested in the days immediately following the stabbing.
Evidence and arguments at Friday's bail hearing are banned from publication, as are the identities of the four accused.
The girl is now under 24-hour house arrest and must live with one of her two sureties.
She's only allowed out to attend court or counselling and must always be accompanied by one of her sureties, who have pledged money and property to ensure she behaves.
The girl must also abstain from drugs and alcohol and not possess any weapons. She was already under orders to have no contact with any of the other three accused. That same no-contact order applied to all four.
They are charged with second-degree murder and go on trial in September.
