One killed, more than 100 injured in South Africa train collision

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - At least one person was killed and more than 100 injured when a South African train slammed into the back of another at a station near Johannesburg, the state-owned train operator said on Thursday. The collusion, which left several train carriages lying on their sides, occurred after the two trains were manually authorised to be on the same track after signalling power cables were stolen overnight, Metrorail said in a statement. "Paramedics discovered that one of the drivers of the trains had sustained fatal injuries," emergency medical service firm ER24 said in a statement. Train collisions and derailments are not uncommon in South Africa, often caused by the theft of power cables, which are made out of highly sought-after copper. China anchors 'monster ship' in South China Sea, Philippine coast guard says
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Saturday that China's largest coastguard vessel has anchored in Manila's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the South China Sea, and is meant to intimidate its smaller Asian neighbour. The China coastguard's 165-meter 'monster ship' entered Manila's 200-nautical mile EEZ on July 2, spokesperson for the PCG Jay Tarriela told a news forum. The PCG warned the Chinese vessel it was in the Philippine's EEZ and asked about their intentions, he said.
