SINGAPORE — A one-off form of additional support for newborns will be introduced to help parents with their expenses amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, said Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat on Monday (5 October).

This will come on top of the existing Baby Bonus Cash Gift, which provides eligible parents up to $10,000 in benefits, he said while delivering a Ministerial Statement in Parliament.

“We have received feedback that COVID-19 has caused some aspiring parents to postpone their parenthood plans. This is fully understandable, especially when they face uncertainty with their income,” said Heng while explaining the motivation for the new support.

He added that Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and National Development, would elaborate on the details of the additional support soon.
