Oprah Winfrey Reveals Gayle King's Odd Drink Request at Tina Turner’s Wedding
Winfrey revealed the drink request during an appearance on 'King Charles'
Gayle King had a one-of-a kind — and seemingly odd — drink request for Tina Turner’s wedding.
Oprah Winfrey revealed that her close friend chose dairy over every other drink at the special occasion while joking with Charles Barkley on his CNN series, King Charles, about their mutual friend’s choice not to drink alcohol.
"We were at Tina Turner's wedding and she asked for milk, okay?,” Winfrey shared, leading King to defend her choice, saying that she ordered it “because I like milk with my cake!"

Winfrey added that this wasn’t the first time she’s seen King make an unexpected request.
"Listen, the last big party we were at, I swear she asked for a Shirley Temple and, 'You can be sure to put a cherry in that.' I mean, has no qualms about asking for it," Winfrey said, to which King responded, "No, I don't."
Barkley teased, "She is no fun whatsoever."

Of course, no one knows King quite as well as Winfrey — and vice versa — as the pair share a longtime friendship that has lasted for more than five decades. In January, King even wished her longtime friend a happy 70th birthday with a sweet video tribute on Instagram showing Winfrey reading with her grandson.
The video showed the former talk show host making beeping noises to mimic the truck from the book she was reading. The clip also showed the Mississippi native hilariously attempting to relax by suggesting that Luca allow “Aunty O” to take “some quiet time.”
“While Favorite grandson Luca is too young to understand how special this moment was during Christmas vacation, it’s not lost on me,” King’s captioned the post.
She continued, “When asked how she wanted to spend her birthday, she said, ‘No gifts, no parties, no surprises!’ Her preference was to sit by the fire with a good book and savor the fragrance of her life! Happy birthday Oprah!!”

The pair, meanwhile, became friends during their early days working together at WJZ-TV in Baltimore. Despite the two not knowing each other very well, Winfrey allowed King to sleep at her place during a snowstorm.
"We ended up talking all night long," Winfrey told PEOPLE in April 2022 for The Beautiful Issue. "We've literally been friends ever since."
In the joint interview, the two also revealed that while people may “find this hard to believe,” throughout their almost 50-year friendship, they’ve “never had a serious argument.” Winfrey added, “It certainly is a beautiful friendship."
