Orchard Towers assault: 7 charged with murder of 31-year-old man

SINGAPORE — Six men and one woman were charged on Thursday (4 July) in relation to the murder of a 31-year-old man following a fight at Orchard Towers.

All seven were part of an illegal assembly who attacked Satheesh Noel Gobidass at the entrance of Orchard Towers on Tuesday morning.

The men charged are Tan Sen Yang, 27, Joel Tan Yun Sheng, 26, Chan Jia Xing, 26, Ang Da Yuan, 26, Loo Boon Chong, 25, Tan Hong Sheng, 22. The woman in the case is 22-year-old Natalie Siow Yu Zhen. Each was charged with one count of murder with common intention over the alleged killing.

Tan Hong Seng, Tan Sen Yang and Loo were charged via video link while the rest appeared in court.

Only Chan was represented. His lawyer, John Koh, told the court that he had just been briefed on the matter.

All seven will be remanded one week for investigations and later remanded an additional three weeks for psychiatric observation. They will next appear in court on 11 July.

Victim found motionless at scene

The police said they received a call for assistance at 6.25am on Tuesday, and Satheesh was found motionless at the entrance of Orchard Towers.

He was taken unconscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Apart from the seven charged, one more woman who was arrested for the incident has not been charged. Murder with common intention carries a death penalty.
