Oregon Occupier Supporter Uses “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” to Sell a Lego

The phrase “Hands up, don’t shoot” became a popular rallying cry in the wake of the 2014 killing of Michael Brown, an African American, by Darren Wilson, a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. It’s now been co-opted by the one of the supporters of the anti-government Oregon occupiers to sell Legos.

The niece of LaVoy Finicum is auctioning off custom-made Legos meant to resemble the Arizona rancher, who was one of the leaders of the takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Center and was killed in a shootout with police last month. Finicum’s niece, Jessica Fauth Edgar, is advertising the miniature on her Facebook page.

Here’s the message Edgar posted Monday on Ebay [typos and emphasis from the original posting]:

Hi, My name is Jessica. I am LaVoy’s neice. Many of you have seen me promoting this on face book. This will be a LIMITED EDITION 15 ONLY. Auctions will be held every 10 days or so until they are gone. I am trying to help my Aunt Jeanette and YES 100% of this will go directly to her. Please see the family’s FB page if you feel the need to verify at LaVoy Finicum; One Cowboy’s Witness. Also homemade pins, made by his extended family, will be available shortly ($5.00 min. donation). My uncle set a great example for his family and friends and I am so proud of him.
