Hugh Dennis has drummed up excitement around the Outnumbered Christmas special coming out later this year.

The stars of the original Outnumbered series are returning all grown up including Dennis as dad Pete, Claire Skinner as mum Sue, Tyger Drew-Honey as eldest son Jake, Daniel Roche as the middle child Ben, and Ramona Marquez as the daughter Karen.

Fast forward to now, the Christmas special will be set in the future following the chaos of the downsized home of mum and dad with grown up children and a grandchild. The actor, 62, appeared on Good Morning Britain where he revealed filming details for the 40-minute TV special.

The star revealed there were going to be some big changes for the TV favourite family, including no longer living together. He said: "We're all looking forward to it. It's going to be strange. We don't live together as a family. There's lots of different stuff to reflect. It did seem to me to reflect life as it actually was."

Dennis and Skinner played mum and dad in the BBC comedy from 2006 until 2017. A year after finishing filming, Dennis and Skinner got together in real life and now they are returning to their roles as mum and dad for the first time since they were in a relationship.

Asked about how they find filming as a married couple now that they're in a romantic relationship, Dennis said: "I don't know yet as I haven't!"

However, he did reveal that filming for the special would begin in November. He added: "No we film it in November. It's great that it's coming back. We don't know anything about it. We have a grandchild. We don't know whose child it is."

Dennis revealed all the cast are excited to reprise their roles in Outnumbered. He added: "It's going to be fantastic. I think as the series went through, they [the children] get larger and larger. It must be obvious, we couldn't be the parent of these children!"

Looking back on the previous series, Dennis shared some of the magic of bringing Outnumbered to the screen including the lack of scripts. The actor revealed there was no point in the children having scripts because Ramona couldn't read yet as she was so young when they first started filming.

He said: "Well it was improvised, Claire and I had a script we were told to learn but not very well. The kids all improvised. You could never get kids to sound like kids. It is incredible."

Elsewhere in the interview, Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley asked Dennis about ageing in real life. The comedy actor shrugged it off as he admitted that age has never really bothered him thanks to his mum.

He said: "I am 62. It's going very well. I've never really wanted to be younger than I am at any stage. I've never thought my 60th birthday. I just go, oh well that's interesting. My mum always used to go, slightly more wrinkly but my mum would never go 'Oh!' She would go, 'Oh that's interesting.'"
