A tipper truck overturned and obstructed three lanes on the the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Friday morning (22 Sept), causing several hours of traffic congestion.

The Singapore Police Force said it was alerted to the accident, which happened just before Kallang Way exit towards Changi Airport, at 4.07am.

The 56-year-old driver of the tipper truck was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He was conscious, the police said.

A video of the incident uploaded onto Facebook showed a large truck on its side. Piles of what appeared to be sand and gravel were strewn onto the roads around the truck.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) tweeted of the accident at around 4.12am, alerting motorists to avoid lanes one, two and three on the PIE.

Subsequent tweets also warned of growing congestion stretching until the Bukit Timah Expressway.

Yahoo News Singapore understands that all lanes on the expressway had been reopened by 9am.

The police said investigations are currently ongoing.
