'Past Lives' star Teo Yoo becomes first Korean male actor to get BAFTA nom

A24 romance drama "Past Lives" received three nominations at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), including a historic nod for German-South Korean actor Yoo Teo.
Unveiling the nominees: Teo Yoo, whose real name is Kim Chi Hun, 42, was nominated Thursday for best leading actor. Others vying for the coveted accolade include Bradley Cooper (âMaestroâ), Colman Domingo (âRustinâ), Paul Giamatti (âThe Holdoversâ), Barry Keoghan (âSaltburnâ) and Cillian Murphy (âOppenheimerâ).
Historic nomination: Yoo, who was born in Cologne, Germany, is the first Korean male actor nominated for an acting award at the BAFTAs. He played Hae Sung in the movie.

The first Korean female actor to receive a BAFTA nomination for an acting category â best supporting actress â was Youn Yuh-jung of A24âs âMinariâ in 2021. She went on to win the award and others of the same category at the SAG Awards and the Oscars in the same year.
Other nominations: Aside from best leading actor, âPast Livesâ has been nominated for best original screenplay alongside âAnatomy of a Fall,â âBarbie,â âThe Holdoversâ and âMaestro.â
The film, directed by Celine Song and co-starring Greta Lee, also received a nod for best film not in the English language. Others nominated in the category include â20 Days in Mariupol,â âAnatomy of a Fall,â âSociety of the Snowâ and âThe Zone of Interest.â
