The late Paul O'Grady has been posthumously nominated for a National Television Award, in recognition of his work on the final series of Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs.

The 2023 NTAs nominations were released today (August 15), with the TV presenter on the shortlist for the Factual award, facing competition from three other shows - Sort Your Life Out, The Martin Lewis Money Show Live and Clarkson's Farm.

The final few episodes of O'Grady's canine series aired in April this year, a month after the entertainer's sudden death.

O'Grady, who was known for his love of animals, headed up the show for 11 series, which documented the lives of the staff and furry residents at London's renowned Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

"Paul O’Grady receives a posthumous nomination for the final series of For the Love of Dogs," ITV confirmed in a press release.

"The beloved Battersea series vies for the Factual award where fellow nominees are the agricultural delights found on Clarkson’s Farm, the decluttering tips featured in Sort Your Life Out and the cash-saving advice offered up in The Martin Lewis Money Show Live."

The broadcaster also confirmed this week that viewers will posthumously see O'Grady on screens again soon, when Paul O'Grady's Great Elephant Adventure airs in the autumn.

The two-part documentary series was filmed by the star on location in Thailand and Laos late last year.

The show explores the rescuing and rehabilitation of one of the world's most endangered animals in both countries' elephant rescue centres.

O'Grady's fellow Factual award nominee Martin Lewis also finds himself up for the 2023 TV Presenter award, alongside I'm a Celebrity's Ant and Dec, This Morning's Alison Hammond, The Traitors UK's Claudia Winkleman and Bradley Walsh for his hosting of The Chase.

The NTAs will air on September 5, with comedian Joel Dommett hosting proceedings at London's o2 arena.
