Actress Penelope Cruz looks sensational on the cover of W Mag in a pink version of the skintight Balenciaga catsuit first made famous by Kim Kardashian.

Oscar-winning director Pedro Almodóvar and his muse Cruz reimagined the casting call for world-famous opera Carmen, harking back to the pair's first real-life meeting when Almodovar asked the then 18-year-old Cruz to meet about a part in his next film.

For this W shoot, Almodóvar wanted to imagine Cruz as the lead in a production of the tragedy, Carmen.

The Oscar-winning actress, who has two children with husband Javier Bardem, has been a long-time collaborator with Almodovar, appearing in his films Live Flesh, All About my Mother, and Parellel Mothers.

Both she and her husband have been nominated for Oscars in 2022, Cruz nominated for Best Actress for Parallel Mothers, and Bardem for Best Actor for his part in Being the Ricardos.

Speaking about the shoot, Cruz told W: "I have wanted to play Carmen since I was 4. I was a ballet dancer and Carmen is one of the great roles in ballet."

To complement the bubblegum pink bodysuit with built-in heels, Cruz, 47, wore her hair in a high bun adorned with a giant red rose.

The Balenciaga bodysuit first made headlines when it was worn by Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala.

Kim's look was the most hotly-contested ensemble at the event as she was covered in black from head to foot, complete with a face-covering balaclava.

Whether you loved it or hated it, Kim's controversial look got people talking and the Internet was awash with theories about the meaning behind it.

Some argued that Kim's outfit was designed to prove she is so recognisable that people instantly know who she is even if covered head to toe.

But Kim later said she initially fought against the totally-covered look, saying, "Why would I want to cover my face?"

Either way the look was one of the most iconic of 2021, and now Cruz has totally reimagined it in hot pink for 2022.
