Percy Jackson and the Olympians has released a first, action-packed trailer that teases the demigod's origin story.

The TV show, set to premiere on Disney+ on December 20, is an adaptation of the first of Rick Riordan's books, seeing the titular character accused of stealing Zeus' lightning bolt.

Soundtracked to Stealth's rendition of 'Riptide,' the new clip sees the protagonist, played by Walker Scobell, learning about his heritage and being shipped off to Camp Half-Blood to hone in his skills and find his own place in the world.

There, he is tasked with retrieving the bolt to prevent war among the gods and sets off on a mission together with his new two pals, Athena's daughter Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries) and satyr Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri).

The trailer also gives fans a glimpse of Percy's mother Sally Jackson (Virginia Kull) as well as Chiron aka Mr. Brunner (Glynn Turman), a centaur disguised as Percy's Latin teacher who advise the 12-year-old boy in his upcoming quest.

Lin-Manuel Miranda also features as messenger to the gods Hermes and is seen as he welcomes the trio to a casino.
