From his string of A-Lister ex-girlfriends to his comedy stylings, Pete Davidson is known for many things. But, in a new interview, Pete admitted that the reputation he's built up has had an impact on his mental health – something he's keen to change, especially in light of his decision to leave Saturday Night Live.

Speaking to Jon Bernthal on the Real Ones podcast, Pete explained that being viewed as a "big idiot with a dick that smokes weed" has become "humiliating", resulting in him feeling like the "butt of the joke".

"That’s why I’m trying to like be an actor," he went on, adding that he doesn't want to "just be what people think is me."

"That was my thing for a bit," he said of the persona that people have created for him. "But it doesn’t have to be my thing forever."

Elaborating further on his mental health, Pete – who was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in 2017 – said he's currently in a healthy place, although this in itself is an unfamiliar feeling for him.

"It’s a weird thing for me to even grasp now, because I’ve lived in discomfort for so long, where that became comfortable," he explained. "You actually have to trick your brain, because your brain after a while becomes used to trauma, it becomes used to being hurt."

Pete went on: "It’s a whole new thing I never thought of. It’s weird being happy."
