Peter Navarro asks Supreme Court again to get him out of prison

Peter Navarro, adviser to former President Trump, asked the Supreme Court to review his plea to get out of prison in a long-shot request filed Tuesday.

It’s the second time Navarro has asked the nation’s highest court to set him free while he challenges his conviction. Chief Justice John Roberts shut down the first request last month, a day before Navarro went to prison March 19.

Navarro’s lawyers asked Justice Neil Gorsuch to look over the request denied by Roberts. The Supreme Court allows parties to resubmit requests to individual justices if their emergency appeals are denied by a separate single justice.

“We respectfully request that our application for an order staying the execution of the district court’s order requiring Dr. Navarro submit to the custody of the Bureau of Prisons be renewed with the Honorable Associate Justice Gorsuch,” wrote Navarro’s attorneys, Stan M. Brand and Stanley E. Woodward Jr.

Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison for failing to produce documents related to the probe and for skipping his deposition before the select House committee that investigated events surrounding the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

He argued he did not need to hand over the documents requested since they were covered under Trump’s executive privilege.

He is serving a four-month sentence in a low-security prison in Miami.
