PHOTOS: England, Netherlands held to draws as Qatar crashes out of its own World Cup

England and the Netherlands, two early tournament contenders, were held in the World Cup where host Qatar made history it would rather forget.

Yahoo News Singapore brings some of the highlights from these matches in photos.

Wales 0 - 2 Iran

Two late goals in stoppage time from Iran sealed the win over 10-man Wales in their Group B match.

Welsh goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was sent off in the 86th minute for a cynical challenge before the Iranians pounced with the late goals.

Gareth Bale, in his record 110th appearance for his national team, failed to inspired Wales.

With the victory, Iran managed to recover from a humiliating loss against England in their opener. Wales, on the other hand, looked tired after their draw with the United States.

A confrontation ensued between pro- and anti-Iranian government fans outside the stadium ahead of the match.
