Pia Guanio ties the knot with non-showbiz boyfriend

Pia Guanio confirmed she is now married to boyfriend Steve Mago.

“I will categorically answer that, and the answer is yes,” Pia said in a phone interview with GMA-7's “Showbiz Central” on Sunday, October 9, when asked if she is indeed married Steve last week.

The intimate ceremony, which the Kapuso host said was attended by less than 50 guests, took place last October 1.

According to Pia, they kept the wedding a secret because they wanted to keep the ceremony private.

“We wanted just a few people because we wanted to concentrate on the ceremony, on the blessing, on the message from our pastor. Ayaw talaga namin ng unnecessary distraction which what a big, real wedding entails. So minabuti na lang namin to have our families present because honestly sila lang naman talaga yung pinakaimportante,” she explained.

'Missing the forest for the trees'

Pia added that keeping the wedding small is like “missing the forest for the trees.”

“With all the preparations, sometimes na-mimiss mo yung mensahe talaga e, yung kahalagahan ng okasyon e. And this is what I love about what happened because it was very solemn, it was very meaningful, and it was very heartfelt,”she said.

However, the “Showbiz Central” co-host said she and Steve will have a bigger wedding celebration besides the intimate ceremony last October 1.

“Let me take this opportunity to tell all my friends not to feel bad. I know that some of them feel a little bit slighted, some of them were a bit offended that they didn't get told, they didn't get invited... I'm telling my friends right now on national television... magkakaroon talaga ng susunod pa,” Pia told “Showbiz Central.”

'Couldn't have it any other way'

The Kapuso host shared that while the “material preparations” for the wedding took only a couple of days, the “emotional preparation” took a bit longer.

“In terms of preparing ourselves spiritually for it, it took a while. Mga a whole month of preparation,” Pia said.

The “Eat Bulaga” host shared she became emotional during the ceremony.

“Sinasabi ko nga sa yaya ni Steve, 'O, si Steve ha, baunan mo ng tissue, baka humagulgol yung alaga mo.' Ang ending, ako ang humagulgol, from start to finish. And because of that, everybody else was crying. My mom who's like a stone pillar actually shed a tear... Hindi umiiyak yun e, pati daddy ko,” she narrated. “There was not a dry eye in the room.”

Pia added, “Yun ang sinasabi ko e. Kapag intimate yung isang okasyon, damang-dama mo kung ano yung nangyayari. So I couldn't have it any other way.”

As for their honeymoon, Pia said they might hold it off until next year.

“Wala pang tyempo bilang nag-Europe na kami just a few months ago so I think I've exhausted all my leaves for this year. Maybe next year na lang. If after the bigger occasion, itutuloy-tuloy na namin,' she said.
