Pioneer, Merdeka Generation seniors to get $270M in MediSave top-ups in July
SINGAPORE — Some $270 million in MediSave top-ups will be dished out to eligible Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation seniors in July.
These top-ups - part of the Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation Packages - may be used to pay for their MediShield Life premiums and other MediSave-approved insurance plans, hospitalisation, day surgery, and approved outpatient treatments, said the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) in a joint press release on Thursday (13 June)
The Pioneer Generation Package was introduced in 2014 to thank and honour Pioneers - defined as those born on or before 31 December 1949 and who obtained citizenship on or before 31 December 1986 - for their contributions in the early years of Singapore’s independence.
In the coming week, Pioneers will receive letters informing them of the top-ups, as well as other benefits that they are eligible for.
Pioneers receive between $200 and $800 in annual Pioneer Generation MediSave top-ups. The top-up for this group is expected to cost about $170 million in 2019.
Meanwhile, Merdeka Generation seniors - those born from 1 January 1950 to 31 December 1959 and who became citizens on or before 31 December 1996 - would have received their eligibility notification letters by early May 2019.
Benefits they are eligible for include $200 in Merdeka Generation MediSave top-ups every year, from 2019 to 2023. The top-up for this group is expected to cost about $100 million in 2019.
