Plans to demolish Russ Abbot's old house approved

Plans to demolish the former home of comedian Russ Abbot to make way for 10 new homes have been approved.

The decision to knock down the property, in Rossett, Wrexham county, was "overwhelmingly opposed" by residents.

Proposals by applicant Michael Cunningham were discussed by councillors on Monday.

The development was backed by the majority of Wrexham council's planning committee, but councillor for Rossett, Hugh Jones, raised concerns over the impact on road safety.

He said: "This is a prime location at the very heart of the village and as such is the focus of a lot of interest.

"The community council overwhelmingly opposed the application."

Ross Shepherd, who like Mr Jones represents Rossett on the county council and is also on Rossett community council, also objected the plans due to the impact on traffic and a lack of affordable housing included within the proposals.

But the application was approved by a majority vote on Monday.

It is unclear how long Mr Abbot lived in the property for.
