There’s another new Pokémon in town, with Mega Gardevoir’s debut in Mega Raids at Pokémon GO on Wednesday (8 February), with the start of the Valentine’s Day Event.

This powerful Psychic and Fairy dual-type Pokémon is especially handy for defeating Dragon Types in Pokémon GO, owing to Mega Gardevoir's collection of strong Fairy-type techniques.

Mega Gardevoir will be difficult to defeat, but it’s not impossible.

However, as with other Mega Raids, you cannot do this on your own. Instead, you can take down this Mega Pokémon with the best Pokémon counters and the help of a few other trainers.

How to get Mega Gardevoir

As with any other Mega Pokémon in Pokémon GO, Mega Gardevoir cannot be caught in the wild. Instead, you need to catch Gardevoir in its first form. Here are the CP values you can expect for Gardevoir:

1688 – 1767 CP (no weather boost)

2110 – 2209 CP (boosted by Windy and Cloudy weather boost)

When first evolving a Gardevoir into a Mega Gardevoir, 200 Mega Energy is required; afterwards, re-evolving the same Gardevoir costs just 40 Mega Energy.

Mega Gardevoir Raids are a good way to stock up on Mega Energy, and after you've developed your Mega Gardevoir, you may walk it as a companion and earn 5 Mega Energy for every candy you give it.

How to successfully counter a Mega Gardevoir in a Mega Raid

The optimal party size for this Mega Raid would be between three to five players, ideally including those with higher Trainer levels and raid experience.

Take note though that the fewer raid members there are, the more powerful the Trainers and their Pokémon should be.

Furthermore, even with a bigger group, it is crucial that you and your teammates are employing powerful Pokémon that take advantage of Mega Gardevoir's unique vulnerabilities.

Mega Gardevoir's best raid counters are strong Ghost, Poison, and Steel types. Shadow Pokémon of these types are also strong, so if you have one that is powered up and TMed, you can also use it. However, it’s quite expensive to power up and remove the frustration, so if you don’t have one ready, you don’t need to go out of your way and prepare it for this Mega Raid.

Make sure one of the Pokémon you use in this Raid battle is Mega Evolved to boost your and your friends' overall effectiveness and chances of victory.

As an added bonus, attacks of the same kind as the Mega Evolved Pokémon will cause more damage to you and your teammates while they are in effect. This is a mechanic that makes it so that Pokémon do more damage when they use attacks that match their type.

The Top 10 Pokémon counters for the Mega Gardevoir are:

This elegant Mega Pokémon is resistant to Psychic, Dragon, and Fighting-type attacks, so to make your lives easier, avoid using any Pokémon of these types, or have attacks with these types.

Mega Gardevoir is most resistant to Dragon and Fighting-type attacks than Psychic types, so definitely avoid employing any of these two types since they deliver just 39% of their normal damage.

At level 40, Mega Gardevoir’s CP is 4512, and at level 50, its max CP is 5101. While this doesn’t sound as impressive as the Mega Salamence, it’s a particularly strong Fairy-type attacker, making it a must-have because of its ability to counter notoriously difficult-to-beat Dragon-types.

So, if you’re looking to boost your Pokédex and your Pokémon teams, this is the time! Good luck raiding!
