Police arrest 14-year-old teen for allegedly throwing ofo bicycle from HDB block

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) have arrested a 14-year-old teenager who is believed to have thrown an ofo bicycle down a HDB block. A video of the incident was widely shared online.

On 15 June 2017, the police received several reports regarding a case where a bicycle was thrown from Blk 116B Jalan Tenteram, said a police statement on 16 June.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio and Tanglin Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and the suspect was subsequently arrested on the same day. Investigations against the suspect are currently ongoing.

The maximum punishment for committing a rash act is a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to $2,500 or both.

SPF said, “The police take a serious view of such dangerous acts that endanger the lives of others and will take swift action against the perpetrators.”

On Thursday evening, ofo Singapore also posted a statement on its Facebook page saying it was “deeply saddened” to hear of the incident. It added, “We do not tolerate any abuse to our property and we will spare no effort to cooperate with Singapore Police to track down the suspect. And we reserve all rights to sue the suspects and/or claim damages of our property.”

NOTE: Police have clarified that the suspect is 14 and not 13 years old.
