SINGAPORE — The Singapore police are investigating a Telegram chat group which allegedly featured doctored pictures and videos of Asian women and girls - including Singaporeans - in revealing attire and compromising positions.

More than 8,800 people are part of the chat, which is called "SG Girls@SGWikiLeaks".

Police told Yahoo News Singapore on Thursday (16 February) that reports had been lodged and investigations are ongoing.

Under the chat group's information, Yahoo News Singapore found that the administration, @SGWikiLeaks, appears to run more than 10 channels.

There are almost 19,000 members in the main channel, "Local SG Leaks@SGWikiLeaks", and there are between 4,000 and 22,000 members in other chat groups.

Links with previous Telegram groups

The Straits Times reported that the group has links with previous Telegram groups that distributed similar content.

In 2019, four men were arrested for hosting obscene photos and videos under the now-defunct Telegram group "SG Nasi Lemak". The men, aged 17 to 37, were later sentenced to jail or placed on probation.

According to the police, transmitting obscene materials through electronic means is illegal under the Penal Code.

"Members of the public may wish to lodge a police report if they are aware of persons engaging in such activities," police said.
