Saskatchewan's police watchdog is investigating a police-involved shooting in Regina.

The Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) issued a post on social media Sunday night confirming they have deployed a team to Regina to investigate an "officer-involved shooting."

It's the first major detail released by investigators on what the Regina Police Service have described as a "serious incident" in the 1100 block of Garry Street on Saturday.

Regina police have released few official details beyond the fact that its special weapons and tactics team was deployed.

Regina police say a serious incident occurred at the 1100 block of Garry Street on Sunday afternoon.

Regina police and SIRT have not released any other information and have not indicated whether that have been any injuries or deaths.

"We understand that this incident is of significant public interest and ask for patience as we gather the facts. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available," Regina police said in its statement.

SIRT is an independent, civilian-led organization that is responsible for investigating serious incidents involving police officers in Saskatchewan.

They are asking anyone who directly witnessed or has video of the shooting to contact SIRT at sirt@gov.sk.ca. An investigator will then be in touch.
