At the core of the pic are Carlos (Chaparro) and Miguel (Speitzer), best friends and elite soldiers in the Mexican special forces. Their lives take a turn when Carlos witnesses the brutal murder of his wife. Consumed by grief and a thirst for justice, Carlos, with Miguel by his side, embarks on a perilous quest for revenge, armed with a life-changing lottery ticket and unwavering grit.

“This project represents a significant milestone for our local productions, and we are excited to continue our great relationship with El Estudio, as well as to have such talented actors as our cast to bring this story to audiences worldwide,” said Alonso Aguilar, head of original content for Prime Video in Mexico.

The feature debut of lauded commercials director Rodrigo Valdés, the thriller is set against the dramatic landscapes of Mexico and features large-scale production values, multiple special effects and a notable cast that includes Paola Núñez, Natalia Solián, Gustavo Sánchez Parra and Luis Alberti. “It’s been a challenge and a pleasure to experiment with this fun mix of genres and wrap it in Mexico and its characters,” said Valdés who is known for his action-packed ads and has recently worked as a second-unit director in the upcoming Eddie Murphy crime-busting comedy “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.”

“Mexico is one of the countries that watches the most action on screens and in all media, but why don’t we as Mexican filmmakers do action? Why don’t we produce action films? So, it’s an honor and an incredible adventure to be able to make ‘A Billion to One,’ a 100 percent Mexican action film, built, made and designed for our audience but also with a global reach,” Aguilar added.

“It’s a pleasure to get to work with Amazon, to be trusted in this wonderful adventure, and above all it’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with Rodrigo Valdés who, no doubt, is one of the most visionary directors I’ve ever met and worked with,” said Cruz.

“A Billion to One” is part of a growing number of Amazon Original and Amazon Exclusive Mexican productions that include such titles as “De viaje con los Derbez,” ”El Juego de las llaves,” “¿Quién lo mató?,” “Un extraño enemigo,” “La cabeza de Joaquín Murrieta,” Daytime Emmy winners “LOL: Last One Laughing Mexico” and Diego Luna-hosted “Pan y Circo” and International Emmy winner “Dive” (“La caída”), starring Karla Souza.
