Princes William And Harry Reunite For Somber Walk Behind Queen Elizabeth's Coffin

Prince William and Prince Harry reunited once again on Wednesday, as the brothers joined their father, King Charles III, in a processional following Queen’s Elizabeth II’s coffin from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster.

The solemn sight was a reminder of when the brothers walked behind the coffin of their mother, Princess Diana, 25 years ago. William was 15 at the time, and Harry was 12.

The two brothers walked side by side at the funeral. At their grandfather, Prince Philip’s funeral, the brothers were separated by their cousin, Peter Phillips, when walking behind the coffin.

The walk on Wednesday also included Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

Queen Consort Camilla and Kate Middleton, the new Princess of Wales, did not walk, and instead traveled by car along with Prince Edward’s wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.

Senior members of the royal family wore military uniforms for Wednesday’s walk and service.

Prince Andrew and Prince Harry, who are no longer senior working members of the royal family for very different reasons, wore morning dress.

“Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex will wear a morning suit throughout events honouring his grandmother,” a spokesperson for the duke confirmed to HuffPost on Tuesday.

“His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

Following the processional, the family attended a short service at Westminster, led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

After the service, the queen’s coffin will lie in state, giving people the opportunity to pay their respects for the following four days until the queen’s state funeral on Monday, Sept. 19.

On Wednesday, President Biden spoke with King Charles III to offer his condolences following the queen’s death on Thursday, according to the White House.

He also “conveyed his wish to continue a close relationship with the King,” the White House said in a statement. The president will attend the queen’s funeral on Monday.
