Princess Anne, King Charles's younger sister, was hospitalized after sustaining a concussion and other minor injuries during an "incident" at her Gatcombe Park estate in southwestern England, Buckingham Palace revealed in a statement on Monday.

“The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening,” the Palace explained. “Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery.” The statement added that her brother, King Charles, “has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery.”

While it wasn't revealed what caused her injuries, a royal source told CNN that Anne was walking near horses when the accident occurred, with her medical team revealing that her wounds are consistent with "potential impact from a horse's head or legs."

Anne is an avid horse rider and began competing at age 11. In 1971, she finished fourth at the Rushall Horse Trials, and that same year, she was the first British royal to win gold at the European Championships and was voted the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

The princess royal ultimately passed on her equestrian talent to her daughter, Zara Tindall, who won a silver medal at the London 2012 Olympics with Team Great Britain.
