Princess Charlotte attended the 2024 Trooping the Colour parade held in London today. Charlotte rode in a carriage with her father Prince William, mother Kate Middleton and brothers Prince George and Prince Louis.
The young princess wore a pair of dolly-like Mary Janes in white. The girly style featured short block heels, elongated toes and thick and sturdy straps threaded through adjustable buckle closures. Charlotte can often be found sporting this preppy silhouette. At last year’s Trooping the Colour parade, the young princess also wore white Mary Janes from Papouelli. It’s likely she wore the same “Siena” dress shoes this time around, given their similarity.
The Mary Jane silhouette has become increasingly popular in the past few years thanks to brands like Maison Margiela and Miu Miu, among others. While the style is enjoying a sort of renaissance at the moment, Mary Janes have been around since 1904. The silhouette is a classic one, and comfortable too.
Matching with her mother, Charlotte also wore her very own Jenny Packham dress in a blue sailor style fitted with white trim and bow detailing. The nine-year-old wore her hair in a half-up half-down style adorned with a white bow that mirrored the detailing on her dress.
Princess Charlotte has been seen in various styles of flat-soled children’s shoes over the years. Her shoe closet is filled with shoes in a wide range of colors and materials including Mary Jane straps and side buttons. She has been seen in flats and sneakers from brands like Sam Edelman, Maisonette and Childrenchic.
Trooping the Colour is a ceremonial parade celebrating the official birthday of the British Monarch. The annual event and is also known as the Sovereign’s Birthday Parade. The parade features 1400 soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians in a great display of military precision. The event can be linked all the way back to 1748.
