Prison Break star Sarah Wayne Callies has accused a co-star of spitting on her face during the show's production.

The actor famously played the role of Dr Sara Tancredi throughout most of the series' run between 2005 and 2017.

However, speaking in a new interview for Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen's Broad Ideas podcast, Callies revealed that there was "rampant misogyny" at the time, alleging a distressing incident with an unnamed co-star.

"I mean, like, I’ve had an actor on that show spit in my face," she said. "And I was like, 'Holy shit'."

The star said that she "will talk about it someday" in the future on her rewatch podcast, which she hosts with fellow star Paul Adelstein.

Opening up further about the aftermath of the apparent incident, Callies recalled: "There were things, like, I would go home some nights and have to spend an hour talking my husband out of going to hospitalize somebody.

"Some of the guys were great and some of them were totally gentlemen, but when you go from zero to 60, from 'Nobody knows who I am' to 'I'm on the carpet of award shows'.

"What's that thing they say, that like, 'Any fool can handle adversity, you want to test a man's medal give him success'?" Callies continued.

"So much of it was also great and [I] made lifelong friends and all the things.

"But I wasn't ready to look at it… for exactly that reason: because I didn't want it to send me into a spiral of like, 'What did I let them do to me?' 'What did I let them say to me?' 'What did I put up with?' 'What did I not report?' All of that."

Meanwhile, last year it was reported that a new spin-off set in the world of Prison Break was in development at Hulu – though it isn’t expected to feature characters from the original show.
