Priyanka Chopra Jonas was immediately onboard with Prime Video's upcoming spy drama Citadel.

Produced by the Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame), the series sees Chopra Jonas's Nadia Sinh and Richard Madden's Mason Kane racing against time to remember their past lives as spies.

Also starring Lesley Manville and Stanley Tucci, Citadel revolves around two elite spies whose memories were wiped following a brutal betrayal. Ahead of the series debut later this month, Chopra spoke with Digital Spy about what first attracted her to the action-packed series.

"I didn't even know the dialogue when I said yes to this," the actress revealed.

"It was our fearless leader [Amazon Studios chief] Jennifer Salke, her brilliant idea to put together a pathbreaking show which combines entertainment industries from the world over and has incredible writers from the world over," she continued.

"As an actor who worked in Indian movies, it was just so exciting for me involved in something so ambitious and pathbreaking. It's never been attempted in features or television before so I was just like, yes ma'am."

From the two high-octane trailers released so far, it seems that Nadia and Mason, involved in a passionate romance in their past secret agent lives, will be naturally drawn to one another, with Nadia saving his back on more than one occasion.

Having a strong female lead was also one of the reasons why Chopra Jonas wanted to do the series, created by Hunters' David Weil.

"Also, the spy genre has been – I love you, Richard – but monopolized by men for a very long time. So we deserve female spies," she said

Citadel starts streaming on Prime Video on April 28.
