Public holiday dates: 5 long weekends in store for Singapore residents in 2024
MOM releases dates for 11 public holidays next year, as well as guidelines for work renumeration during those dates
SINGAPORE — Ring in 2024 with a long weekend, following the release of Singapore's public holidays next year by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) on Wednesday (24 May).
Five of the 11 public holiday dates fall on a Friday, Saturday or Monday, meaning that there are opportunities for five long weekends - including one right in the first week of 2024, with New Year's Day falling on a Monday.
Other long-weekend possibilities in 2024 include: Chinese New Year on Saturday and Sunday (10 and 11 February) with Monday (12 February) as an additional public holiday, Good Friday (29 March), Hari Raya Haji (17 June) on a Monday and National Day (9 August) on a Friday.
Here is the full list of the public holiday dates:
According to MOM guidelines, employees who are required to work on a public holiday are entitled to an extra day’s salary at the basic rate of pay, in addition to their gross rate of pay for that day.
Employers and employees may mutually agree to substitute a public holiday for another working day. Employers are also granted the option of giving time-off-in-lieu, based on a mutually agreed number of hours, for working on a public holiday for the following group of employees:
Workmen earning more than $4,500 a month
Non-workmen earning more than $2,600 a month
All managers and executives.
