Man, 26, killed after truck flees from police then crashes in Burlington, Ont.
A 26-year-old man died after a truck carrying four people crashed on a ramp while trying to evade Halton police early Monday morning, Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says.
At about 3:45 a.m. ET, police stopped the driver of the pickup truck for speeding on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) highway at Guelph Line in Burlington, SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette wrote in a media statement. The driver then fled police.
The truck was found after it crashed at the Brant Street off ramp, the SIU said. Police said the collision sent the people in the vehicle to hospital. One died. It was uncertain who was behind the wheel.

Off ramp reopened Monday afternoon
Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told CBC Hamilton the ramp reopened early Monday afternoon following an investigation that lasted several hours.
The SIU began its investigation Monday. The police watchdog investigates incidents involving police officers, special constables of the Niagara Parks Commission or peace officers that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault or a weapon being fired at someone.
According to the Ministry of Transportation, a separate afternoon collision nearby, on the QEW at Waterdown Road, had closed two eastbound left lanes.
