“A Quiet Place” video game unveils tense first-look trailer, story details

"A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead" is set in the horror-thriller's monster-verse.

As prequel movie A Quiet Place: Day One prepares to open in theaters later this month, we have our first look at the franchise's next chapter, the upcoming video game.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, a first-person, single-player game, is dropping later this year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S with a brand-new story set in the monster-filled cinematic universe.

As seen in the first-look trailer (watch below), it follows "a young woman struggling to endure not only the nightmarish creatures of the apocalypse but also the anguish of interpersonal family conflicts and her own inner fears," according to the official description. "With nothing more than your wits and the simple tools you can scavenge, you’ll have to overcome the many treacherous challenges and obstacles that lay ahead, all while trying to survive an ever-present threat of the unknown enemies."

The footage, as well as new images, show how players will have to adapt to survive a world invaded by alien monsters that hunt through sound. You'll have to scavenge for supplies and traverse various environments, all while avoiding noise at all costs, because even the subtlest of sounds can attract the beasts first introduced in the John Krasinski-directed A Quiet Place film of 2018.

Gamers can use bags of sand to create a walking path that will dampen footsteps (a tool used in the movies). Though, one clear obstacle will be the main character's asthma, which will cause disorientation if she's left without her inhaler for too long.

The story of A Quiet Place began when the first movie introduced the Abbott family. Krasinski and his real-life wife Emily Blunt starred as Lee and Evelyn Abbott, two parents just trying to keep their family alive on their rural farmhouse in upstate New York. Millicent Simmonds starred as their daughter Regan, and Noah Jupe played their son Marcus.

After losing their home to these monsters, the Abbott saga continued in 2021's A Quiet Place: Part II as the surviving Evelyn and her kids (including a newborn baby) ventured out into the unknown. Cillian Murphy was introduced as Emmett, a stranger they meet along the way.
