  • Quinta Brunson wore a Dior gown to the 2024 Emmy Awards.

  • People online criticized Brunson's gown as wrinkly on the red carpet.

  • Brunson's stylist defended the look by sharing that the gown was crushed satin.

Quinta Brunson's stylist recently defended the actor's divisive red-carpet style at the 2024 Emmy Awards.

On Monday, Brunson, 34, arrived at the annual awards ceremony wearing a dark pink Dior gown with a square neckline and a small belt cinched around the waist.

Although Brunson delighted viewers with her historic win for best actress in a comedy series, many had less joyful opinions about her gown. On Instagram, the fashion account Check The Tag posted details about Brunsons's ensemble, prompting criticism from some fans in the comment section.

"Straight out of the suitcase," one person wrote. "This brings out the OCD in me."

Another added: "I just want to iron it."

One user wrote that Brunson's ensemble was a "huge miss" and "a mess," which garnered a direct response from stylist Jessica Paster. Paster has styled Brunson for other major events, including the 2023 BAFTA Tea Party and 81st Golden Globe Awards this month.

"guys guys guys… it's crushed satin… I knew you were gonna say something!!" Paster wrote in the comment section. "It's beautiful [silhouette] on her and fabric… and the color is gorgeous on her."

Some users sided with Paster, while others doubled down on their critique.

"I think we also lose sooo much in translation through photos. I bet it was brilliant in person," one user wrote in support.

Brunson has spoken candidly about her struggle to find stylish red-carpet fashion, including in a May 2023 InStyle interview.

"Not only am I 4-foot-11, [but] I'm 4-foot-11 with breasts and a butt. And that's just the cardinal sin: to be short and have the nerve to have any type of curve," Brunson said.

On Monday, Brunson cried while accepting the award for best lead actress in a comedy series for her work on "Abbott Elementary." She's the first Black woman to win the category since Isabel Sanford won for "The Jeffersons" in 1981.

"I love making 'Abbott Elementary' so much and I am so happy to be able to live my dream and act out comedy, and I say it every time and I just love comedy so much that I am so happy to be able to get this," Brunson said during her speech.
