RCMP say there is a large fire they are responding to near Regina Beach and ask motorists to avoid the area.

At about 3:15 p.m. CST RCMP sent a release about a large fire in a rural area near the landfill in Regina Beach.

So far, Regina Beach, Lumsden and Bethune fire departments are helping.

Police are asking drivers to not go in the area south and southwest of Highway 54, for now, and Saskatchewan's Highway Hotline is advising drivers that there could be fire and heavy smoke, which could affect visibility.

There are also emergency personnel on site and some local roads are closed, according to police.

RCMP says anyone driving through smoke should slow down and make sure their headlights are activated.
