Reba McEntire promises to 'bring patriotism' to the Super Bowl
Reba McEntire intends to "bring the patriotism" to the Super Bowl.
The 68-year-old star is preparing to sing the US national anthem at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday (11.02.24), and Reba is determined to produce a memorable performance for the fans.
She told PEOPLE: "I'm so excited. You know, it's not about me. It's about everybody who has worked so hard to get to the Super Bowl, and my job is to bring the patriotism.
"I'm going to be singing for not only the people who are going to be performing and playing on the field that day, but it's for everybody who has worked so hard to ensure our freedom and try to have as much peace on earth as we can.
"It's not about me. I'm just the conduit and the water hose who gets to sing the song."
Earlier this month, Reba revealed that she's been singing the US national anthem "in the shower" ahead of her Super Bowl performance.
The music star - whose boyfriend, Rex Linn, is a "huge" football fan - told Apple Music: "I’ve been singing the National Anthem in the shower [and] when we get in the car."
What's more, Reba has been singing the national anthem - 'The Star-Spangled Banner' - at sporting events since she was a teenager. However, she's admitted that performing at the Super Bowl will be an extra special experience.
Reba said: "I get to sing a very special song for all Americans, people all around the world, who have really worked so hard for our freedom and to give us peace.
"It’s not about me - I’m the representation of this song, and I’m just honoured to get to sing it. It’s a good one.
"I’ve been doing it for 50 years, and I’m really proud to get to sing it."
