Don’t comment on the ongoing case against three men in the Thaipusam incident, as you may run the risk of contempt of court, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) urged the public on Wednesday.

On Tuesday evening last week, police arrested three men – Ramachandra Chandramohan, 32; Jaya Kumar Krishnasamy, 28; and Gunasegaran Rajendran, 33 –for allegedly disorderly behaviour at the annual Thaipusam procession. The men were charged on 7 February with various offences over the incident.

Statements made about the case “may be sub judice contempt of court, if the statements are calculated to affect the judicial process and there is a real risk of prejudice being caused to the ongoing proceedings”, the AGC noted in a statement.

"All parties are advised to refrain from making any public comments, or posting any statements on the Internet on these matters which may have that effect, pending final determination of the legal proceedings by the Courts," the AGC said.

The AGC also said it “takes a serious view of statements made which are calculated to interfere with the integrity of the administration of justice”.

Anyone who has information on the case should send it to the police, it added.
