The region wants to hear your thoughts on Ainslie Street construction
The Region of Waterloo is looking for feedback from residents about an upcoming construction project along Ainslie Street in Cambridge.
The proposed work would happen from Water Street South to Concession Street and Simcoe Street to Water Street North.
David Di Pietro, a senior engineer with the region working on the project, says the planned work is extensive and aims to upgrade deteriorating infrastructure.
"We're going to be improving the underground infrastructure. We're going to be adding cycle lanes at least on a portion of the roadway and potentially on the entire roadway," he said.
"We're also going to be replacing street lighting and upgrading the sidewalks and basically improving the corridor and making it easier for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists to get through."
Di Pietro says no plans have been finalized yet.
"We're still in the engagement process. We're still receiving comments from businesses and residents and other people that frequent the downtown in Cambridge. We encourage everyone to come out and voice their opinion and send in their emails and engage with us."
Residents are being encouraged to attend an in-person meeting in front of Cambridge City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday to share their thoughts on the proposed work. It's not necessary to register to attend.
The feedback received during the meeting will shape the formal recommendation for the project, which will be brought before regional council when it's ready.
