1. How did you start becoming a beauty blogger?

I started my blog years ago when I was in university. That’s when I started using beauty and make-up products. Back then, the choices of cosmetics were limited to only certain drugstores and high-end brands. If we wanted something from overseas, we would have to join various sprees organised by others from forums.

I started purchasing other brands from the USA and UK that weren’t available locally. There were lots of hits and misses among the products that I purchased, and there weren’t many reviews available online to check if those items were worth buying. I wanted to share with people my experience of the items I purchased and used, and that’s how my blog came about.

2. Can you describe what a typical day is like for you?

Busy! Isn’t that how a typical working adult’s life is? I have a full-time job that I dedicate most of my time and commitments to. Despite that, I will adjust my work schedule to accommodate events that happen on weekdays. On my days off, I spend my time doing product photography, writing articles, and most importantly spending time with my family and friends.

3. What’s your morning beauty regime?

Cleanse, apply toner, followed by serum, moisturiser and sunblock. During weekdays, I will start my make-up with a simple base such as a BB cushion compact or foundation, depending on the type of look that I would like to go for on that day. Every minute of sleep in the morning is very important to me, so I usually keep my make-up routine quite simple.

4. What’s your night-time beauty regime?

As compared to my morning regime, I have much more time at night to indulge in my skincare regime. I start off with double-cleansing by removing make-up and then cleansing my face with a facial wash. Then, I apply toner, serum, eye cream and moisturiser. Occasionally, if I have time I will apply a sheet mask too.

5. What are your current favourite beauty products? Why?

This is a very tough question. I have so many favourites to share! But I will share something that I have been using most of the time and have also re-purchased.

Skincare – Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Skin Cleansing Bar, Hada Labo AHA+BHA Face Wash and Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum

Make-up – NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, NARS Soft Matte Concealer, RMK Gel Foundation, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush and Highlighter

6. What is the most common beauty mistake you’ve heard or seen Singaporeans making? How would you wish to correct it?

Neglecting to care for our necks! A lot of people forget that the neck is almost always exposed when you go out. Did you know that our necks show the first signs of aging? This tip was actually passed down to me from my mother. Unfortunately, I didn’t follow her advice until the last few years when I started to see the skin on my neck aging. Always remember to apply your moisturiser and sunblock down to your neck and chest area as well. You don’t want your neck to betray your real age!

7. Is there a beauty secret that you swear by?

Apply skincare when your skin is still a little bit damp. The products will be absorbed into the skin faster, and the moisture from the skin will be better retained too, which will help to prevent dry skin. These are the tips that I learnt when I had eczema, and it really helped me a lot.

8. How big is your beauty collection now?

BIG! It’s so huge that I don’t even have enough space to accommodate all of it in my room, so I have to keep some of my shopping purchases in my office. My colleagues have already been nagging at me to stop buying so many things, and I have been diligently cutting down on my shopping expenses already. I have also been trying to use Marie Kondo’s KonMari method to declutter and re-organise my collection.
