:: Residents clean up after a swollen river sets off torrent of mud in Mexico

:: “We are inundated. Everything is full of mud. All the neighbors are helping each other remove the mud. They put down sacks to prevent water from entering. They’re all there removing mud and now the National Guard is coming to help us because the truth is yesterday was worse. Now it’s better. Thank God we’re alive.”

The area of Chalco was one of the hardest hit by the bad weather on Thursday (June 27) when the Maravillas river burst its banks, covering about eight streets with sludge, an official from the local government said.

Members of the National Guard and bulldozers were dispatched to help residents with the clean-up.
