Retiring police dog wins national praise
A Derbyshire Police dog has retired after seven years of "exemplary" service.
PD Sybil, a specialist forensic search dog, began her policing career in 2016 and was trained as a seminal fluid search dog, of which there are only three in the country.
As Sybil's 10th birthday approaches, she will enjoy retirement by living with another ex-police dog and a new owner.
A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: "Trainers from many forces deemed Sybil one of the best police search dogs they had ever seen, a true accolade."
Sybil, who was paired with handler PC Chris Morris in 2019, has travelled up and down the country to assist other police forces in investigating serious sexual offences.
The spokesperson said: "Sybil has done a remarkable job over the last seven years, and we are indebted to her for her service, which has helped to make our own community safer and that of many others across the UK.
"Thank you for your service and enjoy putting your paws up.”
New recruit TPD Hazy has been paired with PC Morris to undertake a six-week forensic course in Nottinghamshire.
