Richard Madeley has confirmed that he's previously been asked to do Strictly Come Dancing.

The presenter appeared on today’s episode of This Morning (May 15) to talk about his latest novel and, as the show was celebrating the 20th anniversary of Strictly, hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard asked him if he would ever take to the dancefloor.

"Can you imagine me coming out in spandex doing the jive?" Madeley said. "Can you imagine? No, it’s not ever on the agenda!"

But Madeley did go on to reveal that even though he has no intention of donning the sequins and sparkles, he has previously been approached to do the show before.

"Have they asked? Yes, they have asked me and if dear Len [Goodman, former judge] was still with us, I might be tempted," he shared.

Also to mark 20 years of the very first episode of Strictly, This Morning spoke to former professional Brendan Cole, 2017 finalist Debbie McGee, and real-life couple Rachel Riley and Pasha Kovalev about their experiences on the show.

Cole, who was part of Strictly from the beginning and won the first series, recalled how he felt before the first episode went on air.

"I don’t remember many things, but that day was really special," he said. "Exciting, nervous… no one really knew how the show was going to be perceived, or if it was going to take off at all."

To celebrate the BAFTA winning dance show reaching an iconic milestone, the BBC has announced a special one-off programme that will air on BBC One later this year.

The special episode will take viewers on a trip down memory lane to look back over two decades of performances and will also feature interviews with those who have appeared on the show over the years.

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Tickets for Strictly Come Dancing: The Professionals live tour are available now.
