Richard Osman shares exciting Thursday Murder Club movie filming update
Richard Osman has shared an exciting update on filming for the big screen adaptation of his book The Thursday Murder Club.
The movie, which has been in the works since Steven Spielberg bought the rights to the first book, had been slated to start filming last September – though 2023's Hollywood strikes had pushed it back.
The writer has now revealed that work should finally be getting underway this summer, telling This Morning earlier today (February 20): "Hopefully filming this August.

"Amazing casting news which I'm not allowed to say," he further teased, "but certainly one of the cast is someone who people always say to me, is so-and-so going to be in this film."
When presenter Craig Doyle suggested Judi Dench, Osman quipped: "Craig you will not get it out of me!", before adding: "One of the names is someone I never would have thought of in a million years but is absolutely brilliant, so I'm incredibly excited about it."
During the chat, the writer and presenter also confirmed that he has been writing a new novel separate from The Thursday Murder Club – which has even been snapped up for a Netflix adaptation before publication.
"We Solve Murders is the name of the book, it's out in September, it's a brand new series," he revealed, explaining it follows a father and daughter-in-law detective duo.

"Netflix have bought the rights to We Solve Murders, which is great. So it could be a busy few years," Osman added. "Unless everyone reads We Solve Murders and says, 'This is not for us.' In which case they'll go quiet.
"But I think anyone who likes Thursday Murder Club will like it. A lot of it is the same. It's British humour, there's a few tears, it's solving murders."
The Thursday Murder Club follows a group of pensioners at a retirement village in Kent who band together to solve the death of a property developer.
First published in 2020, it has since spawned sequels The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed and The Last Devil to Die.
The Thursday Murder Club is yet to confirm a cinema release date. The book and its sequels are available to buy on Amazon.
