Ring of Honor wrestler Jay Briscoe has died, aged 38
Jay Briscoe, one half of the legendary Ring of Honor tag team The Briscoes, has passed away. He was 38 years old.
AEW CEO and Ring of Honor owner Tony Khan announced the tragic news on Twitter, writing: "Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today.
"Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We'll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin."
Ring of Honor tweeted: "It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the tragic passing of Jamin Pugh, known to wrestling fans around the world as Jay Briscoe. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and his fans."
Dave Meltzer, of the Wrestling Observer, reported that Briscoe passed away in a car accident in Laurel, Delaware. Delaware police have confirmed that two people died in a fatal car collision on Tuesday evening.
Briscoe and his brother Mark were the current Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions, in their 13th reign. The brothers started working for Ring of Honor in 2002, with Jay appearing on the first-ever show, and were the promotion's most enduring and decorated tag team.

In 2022, The Briscoes had a series of three matches for the ROH Tag Team Championship against FTR, the first being at Supercard of Honor in April. The last match in the series was the acclaimed Double Dog Collar match at Final Battle in December.
Jay was also a former two-time Ring of Honor World Champion and held the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship twice. Outside of ROH, the Briscoes held the IWGP Tag Team Championship in NJPW and the Impact World Tag Team Championship.
In 2022, The Briscoes were inducted into the ROH Hall of Fame.
On Twitter wrestlers from ROH, AEW, WWE, and beyond paid tribute to Jay. WWE also paid tribute to Jay during their live broadcast of NXT on Tuesday evening.
